Many of our staff are first aid trained and attend regular refresher training.
Medication
Students that need medication during the school day MUST hand it in to staff in the Welfare Room first thing in the morning for safe-keeping. All medicine must be in its original packaging, showing an expiry date. A letter from home giving parental consent is also required.
Students who have allergies and need an EPIPEN are allowed to carry them, but we do advise that a spare is stored in the Welfare Room for emergencies.
Asthma sufferers should carry their inhalers at all times, again we advise that a spare is stored in the Welfare Room.
Medical Details
Should a student's medical condition change or is newly diagnosed, please inform welfare staff as soon as possible, either in writing or my phone.
Crutches & Plasters
Students who wish to return to school on crutches/plaster casts must first obtain a letter from their doctor/hospital confirming that they are medically able to cope with the school environment. An appointment must then be made with welfare staff for an assessment on mobility and access to lessons etc.
List of checks made on students who are unwell:
- Signed Planner or note from teacher during and at change of lesson (except in emergencies);
- name and medical details checked on computer;
- welfare staff ask questions and act upon the information supplied to them;
- welfare staff can only act upon information supplied, so parents/carers are asked to keep the school informed and updated.
Support we are able to offer:
- trained emergency first aid;
- monitor medical conditions and/or medication;
- administer medication on written request;
- store and supervise painkillers/medication etc., sent from home with parental consent.
treatment available for minor injuries:
- hot/cold packs;
- hot water bottles;
- Olbas oil (decongestant).
We are in full contact and liaise with the School Nurse, Learning Support, the Behaviour for Learning Office, Learning Mentors and Learning Directors of Year.
We will contact parents/carers when:
- your child has received a head injury;
- your child has a nosebleed that lasts longer than 30 minutes;
- your child has been physically sick;
- we have concerns over existing illnesses/allergies etc;
- requested as part of your child's care plan;
- your child has broken braces, glasses or hearing aids in order that appointments can be made;
- your child has an illness or injury we feel needs further attention;
- an ambulance is called.

SHOULD YOUR CHILD BE UNWELL, THEY MUST BE SEEN BY THEIR G.P.
